In this episode of "Failing to Success," Keith Hanshaw, the founder of Graywater Ops, shares his experiences designing custom coins for various clients. He shows a unique coin that has a patent called "NFC Smart Coin" which has an NFC chip that enables the coin to perform a specific action. When someone taps their phone to the coin, it can display the contact information of the owner, which acts as a digital business card. Keith mentions that the coin is a unique promotional tool that helps businesses get remembered by their clients.
Keith's customized coins have a unique design that feels 3D in your hands when you hold them. The process involves creating a custom design in Adobe Illustrator, which is then turned into a CAD drawing, and then two chunks of steel that have a reverse image of each side of the coin on it are created. The metal chip inside the coin is shielded with a thin layer of foam to avoid grounding out the chip. Then, a liquid epoxy is poured on top of the coin to level it out. The other side of the coin features a full-color insert that can be customized according to the client's requirements. Companies can brand the coin, and each employee can program their contact information into the coin.
Keith emphasizes that having a customized coin is a unique way of promoting your business as it helps you stand out from your competitors. By creating a branded coin, businesses can distribute it to their clients or employees, which increases their brand recognition. These coins are unique promotional tools that clients can use for a long time and help businesses stay at the forefront of their customers' minds.
